Neck Tension
Do you get niggly, sore, tense, tight neck muscles. The video below is a technique I teach many of my clients who suffer from that pesky muscular tension that can build up in the neck and upper shoulder muscles.
It only takes about 5 minutes (once you watch the video a few times, you’ll easily remember how to do it), and is a great way to stretch out all of those muscles that are creating tension, tightness and discomfort.
The music is a little funky to begin with!!! But this is one of the best demonstrations of these techniques I have found.
Remember – this is for general neck tension only, if you are concerned about the health of your neck or spine, seek medical advise before doing any stretching or strengthening routines.
PNF or Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation is a stretching technique where we stretch a muscle group, then have that muscle group contract against resistance, then stretch it again. Commonly used to increase flexibility and range of motion, it is a great way to stretch out tired and sore muscles. For more information there is quite a good article here.
Just a note that when you do the resistance part of the exercises, it is a small resistance, you don’t need to push with all your might, a little resistance goes a long way! The linked article talks about this in depth.
