Homemade Baked Beans

GF DF  (I think this is recipe is vegan, though I am not sure about molasses, maple syrup, golden syrup or brown sugar, you could try raw sugar as the sweetener)

Super easy, super yummy and nutritious mid week meal.

3 tins  beans – red kidney, cannellini, white beans, or even chickpeas if that’s all you have, you can have all the same type or a mixture.

If you prefer dry beans, soak and prepare as normal to the same amount as 3 tins of beans, I think around 2-3 cups of dried beans would be about right.

1 onion chopped

2-3 cloves garlic chopped

2 tins chopped tomatoes

3 Tblsp molasses or maple syrup or golden syrup or brown sugar

1 tsp salt                              2 Tblsp Worcester Sauce

1 tsp dried mustard           ½ cup ketchup or tomato sauce

1 tsp paprika                      pepper to taste

All the above condiments are really to taste, use amount above, then add more to taste after it has cooked for a bit.

Fry onions and garlic till soft.

Add everything else and cook for at least ½ an hour, then adjust the flavourings.

These are super good, a family favourite, great with home made bread and a salad, and so good the next day.
